Type of organization: Volunteer, grassroots

Main focus: Climate Change, Poverty and Economics, mostly working but not exclusively at the National level. We do work with local and provincial politicians when it is appropriate as well as on the international stage.

Purpose:
1. To create the political will for a sustainable climate.
2. To empower individuals to have breakthroughs in exercising their personal and political power.

Work in the community:
- 44 members
- communicate with politicians and media about the urgency of the climate crisis and the
- we are spearheading the Million Letter March campaign for Sudbury

Programs or services offered:
- Climate education and presentations
- Climate lobbying
- education on the economics of climate change
- Support group for people who really want to do something political with regards to climate change
- the Group Leader's job is to empower the volunteers to have breakthroughs in exercising their personal or political power

Volunteer opportunities:
- Meetings are once per month, usually on Saturday (holiday dependent) from 12:45-2:30 pm on an international teleconference call.
- Write Letters for the Million Letter March
- Staff booths at events
- write letters to the editor regarding climate change
- develop community partnerships to synergize our actions
- we went to Washington for a meeting in June. Jim Hansen is the keynote speaker and we met with members of the Congress and World Bank to discuss the urgency of the climate crisis and the Carbon Fee and Dividends Act
- encourage people in other cities in Canada to start their own CCL

- Sustainable Earth Club at Laurentian - eight of our volunteers are SEC members
- Let's Talks Science at Laurentian -seven of our volunteeres are LTSPP members
- The Climate Project Canada - they promote our work and we use the CCL information in our climate project presentations
- The Greater Sudbury Climate Consortium - Cathy Orlando is the Co-Chair of the Consortium and at their community event in February we had a booth

Main focus: community sustainability

Purpose: To work towards our common vision of a green, healthy, and engaged community. To be a strong voice for sustainability. To make it easier for citizens to be involved, make a positive difference, and have a meaningful voice. To connect like-minded people and groups so they can share resources and work together. To be a resource for community sustainability. To advocate for change, to research best practices, to educate the public, local groups and decision makers, and to act.

Work in the community:

Advocacy: advocate for community sustainability and meaningful citizen engagement in municipal decisions and policies, and assist others to do so as well. We make public submissions for specific decisions, and give regular updates to City Council.

Research: research best practices and make this information available to others.

Educate: through our newsletter, public events, submissions, and discussions/workshops.

Act: to make positive change. We partner with other organizations on community projects.

Current work includes: a series of ‘unconferences’ bringing knowledgeable grassroots input to EarthCare Sudbury’s Local Action Plan; collaborating on efforts to improve lake water quality by restricting phosphorous, and improving air-quality by reducing idling; partnering on an edition of the poetry e-zine Terra North/Nord based on local photographs from a CLS photo contest; ‘Smart Growth’ toolkits for elementary and high school students.

Programs or services offered: Membership(for individuals or community groups); bi-weekly newsletter. We can assist you or your group keep informed of local issues and events, find resources, connect to others, create a vision of revitalization, speak out, or navigate the planning process.

Purpose: EarthCare Sudbury is a unique partnership between the City of Greater Sudbury, over 100 community, agencies, organizations and businesses, and hundreds of individuals coming together to chart our own course for a greener, healthier and more sustainable community. Purpose:

To advance the objectives of the Healthy Community Charter and realize the goals of the 2010-2014 Healthy Community Strategy; and to oversee the work of multiple sub-committees to collectively guide the successful creation of various initiatives that will improve the human health and sustainability of the City which will significantly influence the City's citizens' and communities' inspiration, inclusion, and resilience.

To implement the 2010-2014 Healthy Community Strategy by using the U.N.U. Regional Centre of Expertise on education for sustainable development (RCE) model as a guide.
